Default Garmin GDL 40 Performance

Being in the Keys most of my offshore can usually be withing cell phone distance that would allow me to use the GDL 40 for weather. However in reading the installation manual it gives refresh times for nexrad radar overlay at 15 minutes! The sat version was a refresh for radar of less than two minutes! Though I don't know the speed of an incoming rain or thunderstorm cloud it seems it could be on me before I had any inkling of a storm overtaking me.
Anyone using the GDL 40 or Cell Phone Weather APS? Curious to know if cell phone APS have the same issue. Don't think I'd buy their service unless the updates are faster.

Not one comment. Guess I should have put VS in the title.

I'm curious about the exact same thing! Did you buy one?

I installed one along with a 4212, HD24 radar, GSD22 sonar. I have used it 4 times when weather was predicted to be questionable and it has been very helpful in 3 of the 4 uses. I rarely travel out of cell range though.
