Default Stereo Recommendation

I'm looking to install a stereo into my 18' cc. Any suggestions for both a stereo and speakers that are not terribly expensive? Also would be looking for a unit that is Ipod friendly.

I will be a little more specific, what would be a good pair of speakers to match up with a fusion MS-IP600?

Like around $200 at the most for the pair. Is the bigger the speaker the better?

Want outstanding speakers for short money & they hold-up very well to the elements? Also...The are on the bigger side (8" 2-Ways) The Pioneer TS-MR2040 which can be had for $89.99 w/ free shipping & no sales tax. DO NOT be fooled by their lower price (sonicelectronix is blowing them out right now) These are not junk spekaers like JBL, Poly Planar, Boss, Jensen & Pyle. I would put these right in there with Rockford Fosgate, Alpine & Infinity. Been in production for years now. Do a search here for "Pioneer TS-MR2040" & you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Listen to Glen. He knows what he is talking about!

Fusion IP600 is a great unit. Had it on my center console. If you want to see what I did, click on the BIDDISON 1800 link in my signature.

My system with a Fusion head unit, 2 JL speakers and 2 channel amp was KICKASS, but I installed good stuff. IMO, JL Speakers are hands down the best! To each is their own.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all of the great responses. A lot of these look like great speakers. I guess I should have known I was going to get a bunch of different opinions. Does anyone have experience with multiple companies to compare?

Fisher: Glen is the electronics stereo expert here on the THT. He is correct that JL Audio makes the best marine speakers in the business. But at a price. I own a pair of JL Audio M770 that I purchased thru Boe Marine:

http://www.boemarine.com/JL_AUDIO_M7...M770-CCX-CG-WH

If you do not require loud sound when under way....Then you will not need an amp (I always think an amp is required) The JL Audio "MX" series will do the trick & do not cost as much. The MX line can be powered by that Fusion IP600 w/o an amp. I have to give Fusion credit....They were not even around a few years back & they have gained market share in a fairly short period of time. A few things I do not like about Fusion is their speakers. They are nothing to write home about (many will say different) & their wired head-unit remotes have a cheap plastic chrome finish that peels-off over time.

If you need an amp then Clarion is the way to go without breaking the bank.

2-Channel:

4-Channel:

Also...If you go the JL Audio route...Then call Jim @ Boe Marine. He'll match just about any price on the web & he is an authorized dealer (must buy from a JL Audio dealer) Sonicelectronix is NOT an authorized dealer for JL Audio BTW.

Good Luck with your purchase!

Sounds like Glen's the guy to trust. I would like to avoid an amp if possible just to save money. Is also sounds like JL Audio is the way to go with speakers. Are the 7.7" MX's worth the extra money over the 6.5"? Are the 7.7" going to be louder?

the 7.7's will be fine as long as you don't use the last 20% of the volume control for any extended time on the fusion - I'll let the other guys explain why..

I can't really speak on the jls with just the fusion head unit, but I just installed 4 m650s and 2 m770 from Jim at boe. I am using a fusion head unit with the jl m600/6 amp and It is absolutely amazing! Jl speakers are hands down the best I have ever heard. I would also highly recommend investing in an amp, which you can do later if you want better, louder sound. I called jl and talked with their tech guy who was very informative and did not try to up sell me on anything I didn't need.

The JL's are the best. However, they require more power to sound GREAT. Good speakers require additional power from an amp in order for them to sound their best.

It requires you to spend more money. Just a necessary evil. I didnt want to do it, but Glen and others convinced me and I was glad I did.

2 JL's and a simple 2 channel amp will make you very happy and make your I-TUNES sound so GOOD!

See the pics. This was my setup.

Is it wise to buy a 4 channel amp for 2 speakers, then bridging them on the amp? I looked at a install i the shop last week and thats how this guy had them. Forgot to ask him about it when he came pick up the boat. Any comments as to why he would do this?
