Navico has also extended their rebate program on Generation 1 units. These are still great upgrades for some folks. Check it out today!

What is the difference between the generation 1 HDS 7 and generation 2? The 1 has a $200 rebate on it.

Gen2 has a much faster processor, much more internal memory, but best of all it has StructureMap. http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Mar...ctureMap-View/

Thank you Edd. It appears the bit extra is worth it then.

I just visited the boat show in my area and fortunately, the Lowrance rep was there with everything set up so I was able to see it all in action. The rebates make the heading sensor more affordable for me. Still 5% of me is saying Garmin so will read just a bit more on them both.

By the way, does anyone know which heading sensors will work with the HDS generation 2? I can't seem to find one on the manufacturer site.

Some stores are closing out the old HDS 7 Insight models.
The prices are attractive, especially with this rebate... but from what I can gather the HDS 7 Insight (Gen 1) does not have the option to add structure scan later...??? Is that correct?

I'm trying to decide between the HDS7 Insight (Gen1) and the Garmin 546s. I'm only considering the HDS7 because of the structure scan. If the Gen 1 (insight) models do not have that capability it will make my decision much easier.

Can someone confirm this?

Thanks,
Josh B.

hds gen 1 can have structure scan
I have that currently

it will not do structure map, which requires more memory and more CPU

Great! So the only downside to buying the old Gen1 is that it does not do "structure mapping" and it's a slower unit with less memory???

I've watched some youtube demos of the units and you can certainly see that the new Gen2 units are quick & responsive.

I found a deal on the HDS 7 Gen1 for $849 with $200 rebate.

Thanks,
Josh B.

Don't let the memory thing slow you down on buying a generation 1 unit at these great prices. Most of the extra memory is needed and used by the StructureMap. You still have 2 SD card slots to add up to 64 gig of memory (32 gig per card). You could record for days
