Best Pre HDS combo units ???

Opinions on which pre-HDS chartplotter/sounder combo units still hold their own today ??

Are we that far apart?

I have been completely satisfied with my Raymarine A65 with the DSM25 module. I have held on to one until I got a deal on a HDS7 gen2 withLSS1. That is the only reason i am not putting it into service on my current boat.

Let me clarify, I am talking specifically Lowrance units, pre-HDS models.

I still like my LCX units.
Wish I could hook up the new BB radar to them

The 500 series was nice (535C very similar to HDS5). Not sure on the larger units, I know my HDS7 is a whole lot better than my HDS5. If you aren't doing structure scan or down imaging, I'm not really sure what the huge improvement was.

 Good units - I have several buddies using these - one of which is a freshwater striper guide and he swears by his LCX113C HD - to the point he still runs it for regular sonar and has an HDS10 on the console next to it for StructureScan

LCX-27, 37 and 112 are all good units. LMS-525C, which can be said to be the 5" version of LCX, is also nice. LMS-520 is the single frequency version of 525. There are also versions with internal gps called 522 and 527. All of these listed units have operational Ethernet and standard NMEA 2000 connectors. When connected to a HDS, NSS or BSM-1 by Ethernet they can all display BroadBand Sounder data. They all supports HD radar but not BroadBand radar.

I loved my LMS-527c. It was smaller but did the job just fine.

I purchased the HDS 7 (Wife got it for me for X-mas) with the intent to replace my LCX 25c head unit aand transducer. However, I recently found that it is not compatable with my radome and I am not in the market for a new radar system as well. I am selling this unit (new in the box) for $850. I purchased it for $1050 but have sent in for the rebate and will pass that on.

I love the LCX 25c was just going to upgrade and use some Santa money, didn't work out that way.
