Default Sitex sp-80 autopilot

I am in the market for an autopilot. I thought I had it narrowed down to a raymarine. Then I went to the boat show today. One of the electronic vendors sold my on a sitex sp-80. It is $1000.00 cheaper than a raymarine or a simrad. I was told sitex autopilots are the most underrated autopilots on the market. Has any one installed or used these units. What do u think of them? A grand is a big difference in price. I am just not familiar with sitex.

it's a very reliable and rugged pilot. i've probly installed 40 or 50 of them. simple easy to use. i am not a fan of the octopus pump that comes with them. they are a little noisy. but at least they don't have an encoder attached to them like TRarmin did. if you have a good pump installed use it. that pilot works with almost any pump or drive configuration.

Thanks for the input! I am looking for a simple yet reliable unit. So far I haven't heard and negative things about the sitex sp-80 AP.

I'm interested in the particular AP myself. Everything I have read seems pretty good. Lower cost/no frills unit that is point to point.

It is a little hard to decipher all the components required for each system. Not a lot of info out there on these units

I went to the Boston boat show yesterday. One of the vendors told me sitex is the most underrated ap on the market. It uses the 0183 protocol, which means it will plug into my north star 952. I am sold on the unit and ordering one this week. Anchor marine gave my a price of 1695 for the kit. I will let you know the installation goes
