Im looking into buying an adf addon sitex 525,I own a old Polaris NC6000 addon but I dont have the room under my dash for it,I was wondering if someone here was useing one on there boat and how well it worked for them,If it works as well as my old polaris I would be satisfied with it.When marlin fishing here on the west coast it comes in handy, marlin fishermen out here are pretty tight lipped and there are times you need one.JMO

R.H. We use the Sitex 525 in our commercial towing and assistance business. They prove invaluable when boaters don't know where they are. Reliability has been good, they cut down the sensitivity of the radio a bit (Horizon Spectrums) and have an annoying "hum" in the audio when on. Range depends on height of antenna (yours and theirs), antenna elements are somewhat fragile.

R.H. We run 2 radios on each boat, both identical thru GAM 6db antennas. Even with the 525 off, our second radio will receive weaker signals when both set to the same channel. Its just the nature of the beast when you put more "stuff" between the antenna and radio. Also, the transmit signal (range) is also somewhat diminished with the 525 in line, on or off.

I had the Sitex a number of years ago, don't know if they have improved them. Best to set them up with a dedicated radio that you don't need to use for anything else. The Simrad/Taiyo unit is far better, has it's own internal receiver and is more accurate but more $$$
