Default Floscan Installation: No. of Alternator Pole Pairs???

In order to get the proper RPM reading from my Floscan Gauge (9000 Mulitfunction) I need to select the appropriate tachometer input? For Outboard engines this selection is based on the "Number of Alternator Pole Pairs" not the number of cylinders like it is with Inboard engines.

Anyone care to enlighten me as to the number of "Pole Pairs" the Mercury F225 has?

I'm currently idling in neutral at 4500 RPMs -- so something tells me I don't quite have it set up right yet

Thanks in advance...

After mulling this over I think I may have this figured out??? Because the F225 is a four-stroke I do use the number of cylinders(6). This correlates to a position 2 on the red switch on the back of the of the gauge. (I've currently got it in Position 1).

Tried to edit my orginal post but I wasn't quick enough...

Let us know how it works out. I am having a problem with Floscan Twinscan tachs on my Honda BF225's. Tachs don't seem to interpret signal coming from engine properly regardless of the calibration settings. I have 4 alternator pole pairs. Floscan is scratching their heads trying to figure out what is going on too.

I just went through the same thing with my model 7000. I can't tell you where to find the info, but with my Johnson 150's, I just started them up and changed the setting until I got it right.

Default Floscan Installation: No. of Alternator Pole Pairs???

I finally found an answer for my situation. The '03 Mercury 225EFI (4-stroke) has 12 poles or 6 pulse meaning that it has 6 positive poles and 6 negative poles.

The Floscan documentation provides the following table

#Pole Pairs/Switch Setting
4/1
6/2 *** '02-'03 Merc/Yami 225 EFI (4stroke) ***
8/3
10/4
12/5
20/9

Note: This is for the Red Switch on the back of the 9000 Series Gauge.

Hopefully this will save somebody some time...
