Default Mounting Black Box Fishfinder

The logical place to mount my Furuno is on the inside of the center console using the supplied screws to attach it to a vertical surface. Unfortunately, the interior of the console is bare fiberglass. Any screws probably wouldn't hold very well and they'd show on the outside of the console just about knee level.

I'm thinking about gluing a piece of plywood to the inside of the console and then using the plwood as the mounting surface. But, I'm wondering if there's a better approach.

Do you think that 5200 and marine plywood would hold tightly? Is starboard an option? Any other ideas?

Why don't you use machine screws and finishing washers mounted from the front of the console with flat washers and stop nuts on the back holding the "black box" to the back of the console. If that may not be strong enough, you may want to put a piece of starboard backing between the console back and the "black box" with the machine screws holding the entire assembly.

Gil got it right E.W. Use a little clear sealant under the finishing washers and you have it made.
