Best Electronic Package

Looking for a highly accurate fish finder and GPS with quick reception for fishing shallow saltwater bottom structure. Considering Lowrance HDS-7 with LSS-1 side scan, Garmin 740 S or Simrad's NSS-7. Does anyone have an opinion or experience as to which unit may be best?

NSS and HDS will do the same except for video input and autopilot control which is only supported by NSS. The big difference is the user interface. NSS has the best and fastest user interface on the marked due to the combined touchscreen and rotary controller. NSS has a faster processor and more memory than HDS.

I have both HDS and NSS, I have also LSS-1.

Both NSS and HDS have integrated Broadband sounder, this is a much better fisfinder than Garmin. StructureScan is excellent for shallow water, but will not replace a 2D sonar. You should buy a transducer to the HDS or NSS even if you go for LSS-1. B60 is a good transducer choice, but their stock 83/200kHz transom mount will also do the job for shallow waters.

I have the HDS-10 and its generic 83/200KHz transom mount and it takes care of me. I just couldn't wait for the NSS release this past summer or I would've gone with it.

Similarly I run the HDS 10 with the stock through the hull transducer and the structure scan with the stock lss-1 transducer. Both are required (as I found out). Work gr8 and of course the data networks to other devices on the boat.
