Default Help with why my HDS-5 will not read my Navionics Card

Thanks for any help.

Here is little info. The xl3 card was used in a GlobalMap-3500, then a LMS-332c, and then a 527i. Lowrance sent an HDS-5 head-only replacement for the crapped-out 527i. The xl3 fits perfectly in the card slot of the HDS-5 without an adapter.

The Gold card was bought to use in the LMS-332C when I moved the xl3 card to the 527i.

Neither card, xl3 or Gold, will run in the HDS-5. Yes, I've read the instruction manual. Yes, I understand how to select the Navionics option through the Chata Data function. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Oh, one other thing...the bracket on the HDS-5...is it me or is it a pos compared to the brackets on the LMS and GlobalMap units. I'm getting terrible vibration compared to my mount with the 527i. The HDS-5 uses the same hole pattern, it's just a wider bracket.

Thanks again

Can't get pic to load, here's the link, tks:

From page rotate to chart, menu + menu, then choise navionics instead of lowrance

Thanks Khalito. You may have missed my comments:

"Yes, I've read the instruction manual. Yes, I understand how to select the Navionics option through the Chata Data function."

yep...done...Menu twice, then select Chart, then Chart Data and then change Chart Data to Navionics. Done. The unit shows a light blue pixelated "area" that basically follows the shoreline with the rest of the display blank. There is zero detail in the light blue, just light blue.

I'm pretty familar with Lowrance units and this is the fifth one that I've owned.

My experience with the GlobalMap 3500, LMS-332c and the 527i when slecting the Navionics chart was that a pop-down menu appeared in which I would then choose a coverage area. I don't know if the HDS-5 should do the same thing if it is properly reading the card. All I'm getting is a choice between Lowrance and Navionics. When Navionics is selected, the unit is not showing the chart detail data at all, just the light blue "plixelated" water area. It does this with both cards. The cards both work fine in the LMS-332c unit that I'm currently running on another boat and were working perfectly in the 527i that crapped-out.

Thanks again for all help.

HDS don't show a list of the different chart ares like the older models do. When Navionics is selected you should have seen the chart.

Thanks Abbor. Nothing shows but a light blue pixilated outline of the water area. No detail at all. I didn't check to see if the same view would be shown if no card was installed and Navionics was selected.

What software version are you running on the HDS? When they first came out, they wouldn't run some Navionics chips until an update came out. This was one or two years ago, maybe your unit sat on a shelf for a while? I know when I got mine two years ago it would read an old Navionics gold, but would not read the new fish n chip. Once the update was installed it read both chips.
