Actually the transducer that came with my HDS-8 is about as good as the P66 I added. I can switch between the 2 and do occasionally when fishing deep as it does seem to pick up a little better detail. But if I were to do it over, I'd just go with the matching transducer that comes with the plotter.

Moved up from an HDS 8 to the Simrad NSS 8, the touch screen machine is user friendly and extremely fast. Well worth the upgrade.
Good luck with it. Also used the same Ducer that was on my HDS 8.
To be compatible with the Yamaha XCA 4.2 motor you will be using a Command Link PLUS.
From Yamaha get:6Y8-82521-01-00 for a 1 ft. cable
11-00 for a 2 ft.
21-00 for a 3 ft.
31-00 for a 6 ft.
41-00 for a 9 ft.
51-00 for a 12 ft.
From Navico you need: NMEA 2000 STARTER KIT
N2K-T-RD
N2KEXT-6RD

Well, I get to add an extra bit that happened yesterday. 25 miles out, fairly calm day allowing 35-40 mph travel. At some point, it hasn't happened before, but the P66 kicked up maybe from water pressure or it hit something. There's no indication of hitting anything. All we knew at the time from ship side was it started acting erratically.
I have a swim platform so there's no just reaching down to check on transducers or reset them. But after the P66 quit working, I changed to the HDS-8 orig ducer and kept fishing. So I guess adding the extra transducer wasn't a waste after all.
