Default Battery upgrade to group 27's

Looking to upgrade my group 24 startin batteries to group 27's.

My question is, does anyone think there will be a problem withn charging a dual puropose, and either a deep cycle gel cell or agm off of a Guest 2611 two bank charger?

Or would I be just as good off with two agm batteries? Will it give me the starting power I need for a 200 HPDI?

Thanks

Don't know bout the AGM's but he group 27's should and and be charged fine. Just make sure they'll fit.

No problem...do you need that extra weight though? I have two 24s, that are new DieHard Marine Starting/Deep Cycle. Unless you using (without charging) a lot of power, I'd stay with the 24s. A lot easier to handle, too. The only practical power you gain is 'storage', the cranking power is probably the same. Now, if you only had one, I'd go with the 27.

Suggest you contact Guest to see if that model will properly charge gell cells. I don't recall all the details, but the gells require a different charge rate, etc. There was a lengthy discussion on batteries here on THT earlier - do a search.

I just upgraded from group 24's myself. Went with 2 Interstate group 31's - still fit in a group 27 battery box - more CCA's & more RC, only a couple pounds more and about $8 more each. Got 2 of them for the cost of one group 27 AGM.

I just installed a pair of DualPro AGM batteries after checking with Guest. They said "no problem". I'm using them as house batteries.

Thanks guys. The guest says it is good for flooded and gel batteries. I know that they require a slower charge rate.

And no real restrictions on the AGM's.

The bigger the better right? I have plenty of room just need to change the boxes out. That is good to know that a 31 will fit in a 27 box. I may go that route too.

So it sounds as though as long as they are the same size batterey there shouldn't be much trouble.

Not sure if it applies here, but you might want to see if the guest has a charging voltage switch. Some chargers let you determine at what voltage the "float" cylce happens, and I believe that AGM's like higher voltages.

Just a thought.
