Default Is there maintenance I need to be doing to my Furuno 1623 Radome??

So I purchased a new used boat a few months ago that came equipped with a Furuno 1623 Radar. Unit is only about 3 years old from my understand and has worked great. However on my last few trips out the radome has become increasing loud when the radar is in use. Essentially I can hear the mechanical action of the radar turning inside of the radome, and could never hear this prior to the past two trips. Is there something I should be greasing within the radome? Any standard maintenance I should be preforming to avoid this noise? If so any help on what to do / how to do it would be appreciated

Most radars make some sort of sound when they are rotating, the loudest I have heard a radar is a 2117 that had a bad bearing in the rotary joint. I haven't worked with the 1623's but I would call and ask Furuno there are any rotary parts inside like a bearing that could have gone bad that could be causing that sound. 360-834-9300. Aside from that I'm not sure what else in the radome would be making that sound. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the insight on the bearing. It would certainly make sense if it were something simple like that. Especially because it didn't used to make that sound, only recently. I guess I'll give Furuno a call and see what I can find out.

I have one apart in the shop right now. There isn't much in there in the way of moving parts except for a motor, the antenna and a belt.

By any chance did you notice the noise more when you reduced the range? The motor speeds up based on range and it is louder when it does. They also have a small string in there which is designed to hold the dome when you remove it. If you were up a mast for example. It may be rubbing or caught up on something.

The biggest issue I have had is with the gasket that seals the top of the dome and the lower case. It does not always keep water out. you may have a rusted part in there ?

Concur with edyer. This particular radar scanner has 3 rotation speeds and is nearly twice as fast on short range (0.125-0.75nm) as it is on long range (3-16nm). No greasing required as this is a belt driven antenna vice direct gear drive.
