When you say you still see the bottom, is it as clear and distinct as when you do get a number reading? It is not unusual, particulary with a transom mount, to lose some or all of your ability to read the bottom when running. I think you are probably just not getting as good of a reading when running and that causes the number reading to cut off. The solution is to make sure the transducer is in the cleanest water possible (i.e. no wake, bubbles whatever) and that the transducer is aimed properly.

Most bottom machines loose ability to read when you go over a certain speed. Some are bettert ahn others and location of tranducer is critical for this, through hull maybe the best? Why is #s important if you can see bottom and have screen availible?
