Default Trouble with my Garmin 2006C

I got a 2006C for Christmas and I'm trying to play with it in the house.I have the 17n ant on a pole in the yard, and hooked it up per the simple hookup diagram using the on,power,ground,com1 in and out wires only - lot of extra wires which I assume remain loose.I don't have the alarm circuit wired, but the book says that's not required. When I power up, the system lists "none" as the ant device, and says "check wiring" on the status. I'm not really experienced with these electronics - is there something obvious I'm missing? I figure it could be a bad ant, but more likely I'm missing something. Any ideas? Thanks, Bill

BillyBob,

I suppose you've already done this but if not the first thing to check is the wireing matchup. Just to get it working shold take the following connections:

Display Red and Antenna Red to battery Positive

Display Black and Antenna Black to battery Negative

Display Green to Antenna Blue

Display White to Antenna White

So I'd recheck those connections first and if you've just twisted them together by hand you might want to warp them with any sort of tape you have laying around just to make sure they don't touch each other.
