Default Can a Simrad NX40 display AIS or DSC information from a SH GX2150

Looking to get a SIMRAD NX40 and was wondering if the Simrad NX40 can display AIS or DSC information from a SH GX2150

Yes, you will need AA010115, which is a splitter cable to allow NMEA 0183 to come in on the white Fuel/Comms port.
NX only accepts AIS at the standard baudrate of 38,400. Make sure the radio will output at 38,400, it should do.

THe GX-2150 outputs at a selectable 38400 (look in the SH manual for NMEA 0183 setup)....that's how I interface it to HDS and HDS displays both AIS and DSC waypoints (Position Reports) and uses the same channel to send GPS to the GX-2150 for DSC functions.

That is a good price...just a bit rich for my blood.
My current thinking is to spend no more than $2,000

$1300 NX40(hoping for a used M121 or NX45)
$500 TM258 1KW Transducer
$0 Use one of the many 14" LCD screens I have laying around
$100 Mounting hardware to flush mount the 14" screen in my 2350 Pursuit

No, you cant, you need a Fuel/GPS Antenna/AIS-NMEA cable (tri cable) for 657..............

Default Got AIS working but not DSC

Took a run at installing the NX40 this weekend. Easily got bidirectional communication working with the NX40 displaying AIS data and the Matrix displaying DSC position information from the NX40. It doesn't look like you can get DSC information from the Matrix back to the NX40 as it must be sent at 38.4K - and when you set this the DSC information is sent at the wrong speed from the NX40.

The NX 40 has two input/outputs and the Matrix has three input/outputs:

NX 40
1. NMEA Out - hardwired to only output 4.8K baud
2. NMEA In - Hardwired to only receive at 38.4K baud

Matrix 2150
1. NMEA Out/AIS - hardwired to 38.4K
2. NMEA Out/DSC & AIS - switchable 4.8K or 38.4K when set to 38.4K outputs both AIS and DSC information otherwise just AIS.
3. NMEA IN/DSC - switchable 4.8K or 38.4K baud but always the same as the NMEA Out/DSC.

Going to call SH tomorrow to see if they have any suggestions for me.

That looks like it might be hard to unwind with the NX-40's NMEA out restriction.

Wise to call SH tech support.

Yep called both SH and Simrad and techs on both side indicated this probably wasn't going to work.
Not super confident w/ their answers as the guy at Simrad didn't even know if it should work and the hardware could do it as NAVMAN M84 using the buddy track bastardization of DSC so i can remain hopeful Simrad will patch the firmware to their 10 year old platform -grin.

Did a blog post to help others in the same boat
