Default Garmin 2006c: Lost Satellite Position

This has been a fairly reliable gps unit until this past year. Intermittantly I get this error message: Lost Satellite Position and the unit stops tracking on the map. To re-engage the satellite tracking, I find that I need to turn the unit off, wait 2-3 seconds, then turn it on again. It then recycles as a normal startup while it tries to locates satellites. After the usual 10-15 seconds, I am back in business. Then, for no apparent reason I'll get that message again which requires me to reboot all over. When I say "intermittently" it will go 20-30 minutes before the message reappears….sometimes less.
Of course this is annoying, but I'm concerned that it is just a matter of time before it craps out altogether and I can no longer find a satellite. I wonder if this is an external antennae going bad or something in the unit itself.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Most likely a loose connection on the antenna wiring, there should be a terminal strip or splice for the antenna connection into the data cable frim the unit. Or the gps sensor is going kaput. I have yet to see a issue with the mfd to lose sat signal. Also the gps antenna requires power and ground as it is an active antenna
