Transducer doesn't work while running.

I just bought a boat that has a Airman 1kw transom mount transducer. I can see the depth when at idle speed or at rest, but while running it doesn't show depth or really what kinda bottom i have. Is there something i need to clean??? Not sure what is the problem or the solution. Any ideas?

Few things to try

- Make sure the transducer is still submerged in water while underway.
- Make sure the transducer is not mounted behind hull rib, rivet or thru-hull sea cock.
- Make sure the transducer is at least 12" away from the prop.

Do you know the transducer model ? And what speeds are you running at?

Can you post a photo of the mounting?

And what kind of boat & hull?
And just where is the (Airmar) transom mount t/d installed? What model t/d? http://www.airmartechnology.com/2009...ch-results.asp
And have you tried adjusting the noise suppression and gain/sensitivity controls? (On what F/F?)
Is the t/d kicked up?
You can try gently cleaning the t/d face with a Scrotch Brite pad.

It's an 02 28triton and is a transom mount transducer I will post pics of mounting soon. No I have not tried adjusting the gain didn't think of that... The crusing speed is about 25 to 30 knots but even at slower speeds, other than idleor just above idle it doesn't seem to give me a depth.

Yest it is more than 12" away from motors

I had the same problem and discovered that my transducer had just come unlocked in the bracket so that it was swiveling up while underway. When I was idling, I could mark bottom no problem but, at speed, it would mark incorrect depths due to the fact that the transducer was tilting up and firing the beam out behind the boat.

It's an easy thing to check.

It was doing that before but i replaced the bolts keeping it fixed, I hope what ever is wrong with it is that easy as well.
