Default Transducer fishfinder compatibility help!

I just bought a new boat that came with some great electronics but the fishfinder is a junky old garmin and i would love to update it. The last owner had just put a new airmar b744v transducer in so i would love to keep that and just update the unit.
I am having a hard time finding what fishfinder units would be compatible with this transducer. Any help would be appreciated! thanks
PS. i am very interested in the new down image scan from humminbird or comparable but im pretty sure you need a specialty transducer for that.... or not?

The B744 was configured for many different sonars.
Standard, Furuno, Garmin, Geonav, JRC, Lowrance, Simrad, Navman, Northstar, Raymarine, Si-tex.

All you need is to get the part number off of the cable...then we can tell you what sonar it was configured with.

The B744 is not compatible with Hummingbird.

thanks for the response, the old unit was a garmin 240 blue, i have been doing some research and really love the lowrance elite 5x-dsi. i dont see any numbers on the cable, but it has the single round garmin plug. any chance i could splice in the new connector for this model or am i just being stubborn by not getting a new transducer.

No, the last I know of the Elite DSI is not fully compatible with the P66, B60 or B744.

Since you think your transducer is a Garmin configuration you can use a Lowrance or Furuno pigtail or even a Si-tex connector..then be able to use these units.
I can supply you the pigtails and wiring code if you go that way.

Elite DSI only has 455/800kHz DownScan and is only compatible with the transducer delivered with the unit. B744V can be used with the other Elite fishfinders, but a special adapter cable from Lowrance is needed. Elite is powered through the transducer connector, when using a transducer with blue Lowrance connector the adapter cable converting between the DSI connector and the blue connector is needed, in addition to the blue transducer connector this adapter has two wires coming out for powering the unit. Elite will only support 200kHz when using a B744V.

Since you have a B744V you would be better off with a HDS, HDS will support both 50 and 200kHz. If you like the DownScan function you can later add a StructureScan box and transducer.
