I am looking at AIS receivers. Some units have an internal AIS/VHF signal splitter that obviates the need for a seperate AIS antenna or external splitter. I have heard that that VHF performance is compromised with use of the internal signal splitter. Fact or fiction? Any comments?

I have a Standard Horizon GX2150 vhf with AIS and I positively love it. Its hooked up to my chart plotter (for display) and works flawlessly.

As to degradations of radio performance, I really doubt it. The specs on this unit are equal or better than commercial grade equipment, and WAY better than a lot of stand alone VHF units.
