raymarine.....the customer is the lab rat. its never their fault if theres a problem and there always is problems. Furuno is a good choice for radar and fishfinder, but on the navnet vx2 charts are not so great and the unit is slow. Navnet 3D is extremely expesive due to all the black box accesories. Simrad is a great system, great fishfinder, great charts, but the broadband radar is not so great for long range or picking boats up 2 miles away, so you would have to drop big bucks on their open array radars which arent awsome. LOWERANCE IS CHILDS PLAY, ITS MENT FOR INLAND. Garmin is really user freindly, the units never fail, the charts with the bluchart G2 vision cards are amazing, their radars are pretty good, and the fishfinders are ok if you get the gsd24. I WOULD GO WITH GARMIN, GET TWIN 6212'S WITH FLAWLESS CHART REDRAW FOR 8,000 FOR THE PAIR OR IF YOUR ON A BUDGET, GO WITH TWIN 4212'S AS THEY ARE 6,000 A PAIR BUT GET SLOWER AS YOU ADD MORE ACCESORIES. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR BIRDS GET EITHER THE 604x HD OR 404x HD OPEN ARRAY RADARS OR IF FOR COLLISION AVOIDENCE GO WITH THE 24 INCH HD DOME. THE GSD 24 OR THE CHEAPER GSD 22 SOUNDER MODULE, AND THE GDL 40 WEATHER RECEIVER. I PUT THIS IN CAPS SO YOU COULD SEE WHICH ONE TO GO WITH

If both of you (Jersy42 & PharmD2B31) are not in a hurry to refit it might benefit you to wait till the first part of next year to see how all the new systems that are hitting the shelves late this year work out.

Garmin's GSD 24 and it's new CHIRP GSD26 are both due out late October to November. And Furuno might have something in the Spring also.
Raymarine has the new e7 due out late October but that may be too small a screen size for your boats.

I really think this next Miami boat show in Feb. will have some interesting systems and incentives.

Things might get very competitive..both on moving current systems and introducing the new ones.
