I fish out of niantic bay in ct, race rock, block island, plumb island, and the mouth of the ct river, etc.... Not shure what will be a dependable unit for a low cost, HELP?;?

Have a look at the Lowrance "Elite 5".

They are about $500.

I have an HDS7 and it works well. The 'sonar/fishfinder' is really cool.
