Default New VHF Radio

I'm looking at replacing my old VHF radio. I was looking at this Standard Horizon model http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...classNum=10252

Any thoughts ? I don't know much about radios. Thanks for any suggestions or thoughts .

What exactly are you looking for in a radio bud?

3 rivers, Looking to replace 20 year old radio with something newer. I like the DSC feature and since I boat on the great lakes and not a river or, inland lake the AIS feature doesn't hurt. I was just wondering if this unit was out dated or not needed. Or maybe a better option. Thanks, Randy

Not outdated...was released last year by S/H.

If you want or need AIS, it's the way to go.

You can't call the Coast Guard on a CB radio and you can't broadcast a mayday either. For a boat, it's a pretty good idea to have a working marine VHF radio on board.

That's OK, but it is last year's model. Standard Horizon has a newer version. If you shop around you can get the new version for about $340. Try http://www.boemarine.com/

Call Jim at 866-735-5926 and talk to him about it. You might as well replace your antenna at the same time if it's 20 years old.

I have the Std Horizon 2150 and interfaced to my MFD for AIS display.. I LOVE it. Its a solid radio with great specs. Think about putting in a new antenna---the best radio is worthless with a poor/aging/degraded antenna. (Mine is a Digital Antenna 6db)

I installed the S H 2150 onboard this summer. great unit..i have interfaces with chartplotter
shows every one with AIS transmitting movement...
if you look around on the net. and find it at a real low price.and print it out
West marine will price match. and you save that much + the shipping to boot...
