Default Lowrance has worst service - anyone else experienced it?

I bought an HDS 5. It failed 1 mile into its maiden voyage. The lowrance service bureau said send it back which took a week of shipping. From the time it arrived in Oklahoma it took 2 days just to get it from the mail room to the electronics bench. Then a week to test it to find out it was indeed dead. Then a week to wrap up a unit and ship it out the door. I will have to wait a fourth week until it gets back to me. They have a policy of "out of box" failures that allows them to ship a unit back as soon as the bad unit is shipped in. I guess it made it out of the box and onto my boat for 1 mile so I get a 1 month hiatus from navigation and sonar.

I got big time lip service from a very rude customer service guy when I called to get status after 1 week. Has anyone else had this kind of trouble. Should I sell off the Lowrance and get another brand with good service?

I think you should get rid of it cheap. Let me know how much you want for it shipped to 95571 zip code.

I have received very good technical support with Lowrance over the past 8 months.
Haven't had to return anything, but the techs have been very patient and very helpful. Wait time hasn't exceeded 3 minutes in the past 4 phone calls.

My experience has been top notch on my several calls for various questions I had. Very knowlegable and friendly too. 3 min or less waiting. Anything that I requested in the mail arrived within 3 days. Had to get a new front door for the chips and it showed up for free in no time and I ordered an AC plug and it showed up jus as fast.

go with raymarine!

I´m waiting the second week now, just to get help with a faulty rudder sensor!

the wheel pilot doesn´t recognize it at all and the local raymarine branch can´t even provide me some basic data and help to figure out if it is thesensor or course computer!

All on a new installtion for one of my customers.

better have sold him a Simrad AP but he wanted to go the cheaper route

Why did your dealer not swap it out? Out of box failures are handled by the dealer and can be swapped out on the spot. You generally have 30 days to do this. If you send a unit back you are basically sending it back for repair, and that can understandably take a week or more.

I agree...

I tell all my customers to handle any immediate problems they might have directly with me. (I work with Furuno and Raymarine so few problems.. O.K., I had to put that in..lol)

Anyone purchasing an expensive marine electronics product needs to make sure they buy from a retailer who will take care of any early problems directly...then the retailer can take care of the DOE or any early issues and the customer is back on the water ASAP.

Cover this issue before your purchase with your retailer.

It is not all price..make sure whoever you buy from will have your back ...too many internet sites with no support.

Real people who can give real support.

Cool Lowrance service

Give them another try; they're far better than Hummingbird.

They are not far better than Hummingbird (1st person I ever heard say that). Majority of bass guys switched to HB do to Lowrance's horrible CS......I have heard they have gotten better that past year or so. Lowrance CS was top notch when Linda Colt worked for the company. Now you get a bunch of non english speaking people and will be on hold for hours. They couldn't have gotten any worse though so only option wa to get better. My HB 1197si had an issue. Sent it in to HB and had it back to me in 5 days. Keep supporting junk made in Mexico (lowrance) and I'll keep buying from the english speaking people at HB.
