Default Stanard Horizon CPF-180

I was thinking about buying one of these units to upgrade my electronics. Right now on the boat I have a garmin 168 sounder. So I'm looking for opions on this unit. I read quite a few about the execelent customer service and the 3 year warrenty is a plus. Thanks Joe

BOE had the CPF-190 for $580 the other day...

I'm actually looking hard at the CPF-390...the 7" screen is tempting.

Only downside to buying one of these over an HDS is you have to buy the 'ducer separately. Figure another $100 or so for a transom mount.

I had a CP180 on my last boat.

I have a CP300i and an HDS 7 on my current boat. I love them both.

SH doesn't have NMEA 2000 capability, but the CP390 comes with C-Map charts preloaded. They are going for about $800 (I think).

The HDS 7 needs a Navionics chip, an extra $250 (? not sure of the price). It is NMEA 2000 capable and I have fuel flow and tank levels on it, as well as the fishfinder.

If you can spring for the extra $'s, I would get the HDS unit. It has a ton of features; you just have to figure them all out on your own.

Standard Horizon has outstanding customer support and a very good manual. Lowrance customer service sucks and the manual is a friggin joke.

The SH 180 is a good unit, and in comparison to the Garmin 168 it is several generations ahead. The newer Garmin are slightly easier to use. The 180 screen is brighter, but you do have to buy chart chips for your region--which boosts the cost up. Comparable Garmin have hard drive charts, so the over all cost may be the same or less, depending on your boating area.

The CP(F)190 and 390 have the coastal maps built in. Depending on where you will use it, you may or may not need the chip.

The screen on these units seems to be much brighter than a comparable Garmin unit. And I'm guessing (hoping) the sounder works better, as well.

GPS store has a CP300 with discount on C-map if you buy together. Lots of bang for the buck. Yeah I bought one and love it.

Nice, they are integrated to the VHF that provides AIS and also the Furuno
F.F. I don't need all that fancy schmancy stuff like dual navnets.
