Default Best/easiest setting on HDS 10 depth finder?

I have a HDS-10 and I have the GPS functions down.....now I need to work on the depth finder. I came from a basic Hummmingbird that, although, not that good, it worked. It didn't really have any options, you just turned it on and went. I would like settings like that for my HDS. I'm not into fishing and looking for things in the water column, or going deep, I'm just trying to read the bottom for diving at depths up to 110' or so. Would like to be able to pick up small ledges (1-3') and wrecks. Currently ( I don't know what it's set on), it's not giving me anywhere near what I think a machine that cost this much should be capable of.

There are so many frickin' options that it seems to get worse when I touch something. Anyone have any suggestions for basic settings that would help me out? I'm running an Airmar P66 transducer.

I agree, go with the basic setting at first, they work fine to get started. My HDS-8 worked like a dream from the first time I used it.

I did as the video above suggested with one exception of setting it to shallow water (I'm never in more than 140') instead of fresh water and it worked great except for the fact that it is now giving me water temps in the 120-125 degree range......I know the waters warm, but that's ridiculous and need to get it figured out. Now I just have to learn to read the stupid thing. The wrecks and culverts were showing up green......I'm just used to a single color grey bottom finder where they showed up as huge grey things coming up off the bottom. Now all I can say is, damn there are some big gag's out there just waiting for season to open.....and far more Goliath Grouper than I care to see.

That is most likely in your transducer selection. Select the correct transducer with (5K) behind it instead of (10K).
