Default auto pilot ?

Was wondering where the most logical place to mount the pump for the ap 11. I have the rpu 80 and was going to mount it near the stern close to the piston that turns the rudder. I have read a lot of posts on where to mount the rate compass but none on the pump.Would it be okay to mount near the stern and tap into hydrolic lines there? This is on a 27ft Sport craft in fresh water only. Thanks

I have a 252 sportcraft and mounted the pump in the steering console. It is within 4 feet of the hydraulic steering cylinder. That makes a nice clean installation and you only need 3 short hoses made. You can mount it anywhere but close to the steering cylinder will save you money on hoses.

The general rule is to pick a dry location close to the helm pump. But they do make a bit of noise when running and you might find it less objectionable near the transom. The extra length of hose should not make much difference -- not much different than having a second steering station on a tower, for example. It will be a bit more work to bleed all the air and it will also be more criticall to get all the air out of the lines.
