Default Online web tracking for my boat?

Does anyone know of a product that will let me keep tabs on my boat's exact position via the web? I've seen security systems like this for cars, where they email you if someone steals your car. Is there such a thing for the boating industry (waterproof, etc)?

Thanks,
Tim

They can do that... Lojack can hide the little black box anywhere they can get a 12 volt source.

There was an artical about SeaKey in the Febuary issue of SaltWater Sportsman on a pretty neat system.

I just bought this tracking device for my sailboat. It's a small box that lets me track my boat anywhere it is. I just go to a web page, log in and it displays a map with my boat in real time. It also lets me check my bilge levels online.

Yes, I do receive an email when the boats alarm goes off, but it also lets me define a "geo fence" (4 GPS coordinates). If the boat leaves those coordinates, I get an e-mail.

My wife loves it because she can check up on me when I'm having fun!

The web site was http://www.marinetracking.com , and I paid $499.

The documentation was not the best, but it was pretty easy to instal;l Just a few wires...

Highly recommended.

The seakey system looks nice, but it is very expensive! I will look into the marinetracking.com setup. It sounds like the perfect thing.

I just wonder how far it actually works - I mean if I'm 3 miles out, can it still track me? I've got an e-mail in to their support people asking that question.

Thanks for the info!

tmat,
The VERY first web page for that product states "Works UP TO 3 miles from sure".

quote: From their WEB site:

Communication Method:
Using satellite (GPS) technology, The MLU quietly tracks your boat's exact location. When polled by the user, the MLU reports the location using cellular communications. Since the cellular system being used is the older and more established AMPS system, availability over most coastal waters is excellent - often up to 3 miles off shore.

Not a very good technology if you want to use it for offshore fishing / cruising. It uses SMS cellular messaging to report it's location via Analog Cellular signals. Analog cell sites won't be around much longer and don't work very far offshore.

Just got a reply back from the company. They said the 3 miles is a conservative estimate, and that I should have no problem in Lake Michigan, where I spend most of my time. They say that although the technology they use is analog, it is here to stay, because the same tracking units are in thousands of commercial vehicles.
