Default Lowrance lcx-18 vs. Furuno 600L

I'm in the process of picking out electronics for a new boat. Was pretty set on the Furuno depthfinder due to it's reputation, but the Lowrance LCX-18 sure was impressive on demo at the dealer. The screen looked much easier to see and the sales rep said it had better technology to distinguish fish. Any suggestions, you guys?

I have a 600L and love it. It has been a good unit. Sent it back to Furuno one time as a curcuit board burnt out, fast and good cust service. Can't comment on the Lowrance. I have also used the Garmin 2010C withthe depthfinder box it is an awesome unit. I would believe the 2006C would also be great. Good Luck

I have used Lowrance as my primary tool to put loads of fish in the boat for the past 7 years. Machines have been used hard and never had to be sent back to the service dept..
I also have a two friends who fishes the LCX16CI and love it. All machines are used in the saltwater environment. The LCX18CI should serve you well if you decide to go that route.

I love My lcx16, some people have had problems with them though, as far as performance goes, it works great, I think Lowrance has worked out most of there software bugs.

The only reason I would get rid of my 600L, is so I could buy a Furuno 582.

Have a LCX16 works great!. I did have an issue last year. Called in and had a new unit in my hands in less than 24 hours. Did have to leave a deposit. Service could not be better.

Go with Furuno... I have had the LCX-16 for about 18 months. This is the fourth replacement...While Lowrance customer service is A1, it doesn't help you one bit if you're dead smack in fog when the unit goes out....The LCX 16 is no longer in the catalog ...this may be due to all the complaints. I wonder if they just changed model number on it If I had to do it again, I would go with Furuno or raymarine...

FCV 600L owner for three years....very nice unit.
Many manual functions to customize for specific conditions. Easy to read even in direct sunlight.

I agree with Mr. T also.

Buy the Furuno, I have the LCX 16 and have nothing but problems the past year, unit eats new transducers. On my 4th new transducer this past year. My next unit will be a Furuno 582L.

What he wants to hear are the differences between the "18" (not the 16) and the Furuno.

I've noticed that just about every sigle charter boat I've been on uses FURUNO fishfiners. That's enough for me.
