Default Shipping 8' VHF antennas

I'm rigging my new boat and decided on a Digital antenna after the many positive comments here. When I spoke to a dealer in Florida, they said they had concerns about shipping the antenna to Oregon due to past problems with breakage when shipping via UPS such long distances. (Not all dealers have the black antenna in their inventory.) I called Digital to find a local dealer and the closest was in Seattle. Price difference was significantly higher, but would prefer the antenna to arrive in only one piece. When I mentioned the issue to the lady at Digital, she said they recommended shipping the antennas on a piece of wood. I can't imagine a mail order outfit going to that much effort. Can anyone share their experiences with mail order antennas? Thanks as always.

When my buddy got his DIGITAL about 6 weeks ago, he ordered from

http://boatantenna.com/

Got it in 5 business days. It was wired to a wooded 1" X 1" that was slightly longer than the antenna. That was wrapped in bubble wrap and the works were in a shipping tube that had heavy palstic caps that exteneded down about 6' on both ends!

It was a few dollars more, but worth it!

Thanks for the insight Big E. It's nice to know that they do things right. I think I'll have to reward their efforts with my $$'s.

Most of the 8-foot antennas I have ever ordered came in a tube and a piece of firing strip was taped to the tube to stop it from bending. I actually thought that was the industry norm. Anyway I've never had an antenna damaged in shippment. Just buy yours from Consumer Marine Electronics, they know how to package stuff. Another source of supply is Defender, but I prefer Consumer myself.

Has anyone use the Digital Antenna yet? I need to replace my Shakespeare and some articles I read recommended the Digital.

Thanks in advance.

I just received an 8' shakespear galaxy (dual vfh/cell) in a shipping tube with bubblewrap and it arrived without a ding. It came from florida to mass.

This ain't no whip though, it's solid (3/4"?) and I doubt it could be damaged without the tube being crushed all to hell.
