Default Will Simrad AP-12 Follow Route Or Just A Single Waypoint?

A Simrad AP-12 is being installed on my Albemarle this week after hearing about so many satisfied users on this board including Thom. Couldn't get the AP-11 without changing steering to hydraulic so the already high cost of that unit plus steering became out of reach for this PoBoy.

One thing I'm not sure of though. Will the AP-12 follow a Route or will it only navigate a single waypoint? Won't change anything now, I just want to know.

I have the Simrad AP-12H. Installed it this winter.

Have already successfully tested it following a route. When arriving at a waypoint, the unit beeps, but will NOT change course to the next waypoint in the route until you press the NAV button on the control head. This is a safety feature to preclude any "surprise" course changes that could cause injury or toss someone overboard.

Once the last waypoint in the route is reached, the Simrad will maintain present course until the operator takes action to change that status.

Good luck with your unit.

I have the AP11 and love it. We call it "Mr Robertson" on the boat.
My unit will beep and want verification before it makes a course change in excess of 10 degrees. If the course change is less than 10 degrees, it will go ahead and make it without asking for verification.

Thanks guys,

I appreciate the info. Looks like I got even more than I was expecting. Now that's a pleasant surprise!

Any particular do's and don'ts I should be aware of with this unit?
