Default Autopilot Help for a 26' Regulator

I have a 2001 26' Regulator with twin 200HP HPDI's. last year I installed a Garmin 4212 with the sounder a radar & weather setup. I am getting tired of trying to drive in a straight line for 90 miles.

My local electronics guy toldme tostay with either Simrad or Garmin/TR1.

Any ideas & cost estimates would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Peter

Peter,

I have Garmin 5212 MFD's and added the Garmin GHP 10 Autopilot. It integrates with your chartplotter to display messages. Eric at Electronic Marine Concepts in NJ installed it.

I don't know what I did without it. It works great. For your boat you want the GHP 10 not the TR1 IMO

I have a TR-1 on my boat and love it. Since you have the Garmin 4212 I would go with the Garmin TR-1.

I installed the TR-1 myself and 4 years ago I paid about $2,800 for the autopilot. If I had to guess install would probably add about $1,500 - $2,000 with all necessary parts based on install time and difficulty with install.

I took my time and install took me about 8 hours on the boat and 2 hours planning.

I wont go anywhere without autopilot.... PERIOD

I had a TR1 on my 26 Regulator - LOVED the autopilot - HATED the control unit.... Just could not figure out how to do anything other than left and right heading...

The Garmin unit would be a great upgrade.... Good Luck
