Default bilge pump wiring help

i just bought a rule 1100 gph pump and am installing it now. the directions say i need a "rule" three position switch. the pump has three wires.
my old boat had a similar pump and was wired to a two position switch and the auto wire was direct to the battery.
is there any reason that i cant do this or shouldn't?

thanks

Yes, you can do that, and I prefer not to run the auto wire through a switch. But, I assume you have a float switch in the auto wire between the pump and the battery, otherwise the pump will run constantly as long as the battery has juice.

The reason they started wiring the auto lead to a switch was dur to the number of boats being trailered. If it's trailered it doesn't need the pump, and it's one less thing to drain the battery down.
