Default How to fasten plywood to top of aluminum gas tank?

I found a good place to mount the GSD 20 for my Garmin 2010, but it is on top of the starboard aluminum gas tank. If I can fasten a piece of plywood down and then screw the sounder to it, it should work. Any suggestions on how to fasten the plywood? 5200, liquid nails ?? Thanks, Bill

J-B Weld or try 3M reclosable attachment strips (West Marine # 125841) directly on your unit and tank. I used the 3M strips to mount a Raymarine heading sensor and other stuff on top of a tank

Screw the sensor and other stuff through the plywood into the tank or did I misunderstand

SERIOUSLY: Is there a way for you to do what you want to do without actually attaching it to the fuel tank? Just wondering! Could you add a bracket that is attached to something else? What would you do if something happened and you need to remove your tank?

Auguste, if I ever have to remove this 148 gal. tank I am really screwed! I don't know how you could ever get it out short of sawing the side of the boat off. Getting my "bracket" off would be the least of my problems. Thanks

My only concern would be chaffing the tank with the plywood. Would 4200 hold the bracket to the tank maybe put a rubber strip in between???

Send PIC. Use 5200 and 'short' screws!

I suggest: Polyurethane glue ($$) will hold the plywood to the tank PERMANENTLY. It will also stick your finger together for a week so use gloves. Hook & loop strips or pads (a/k/a, Velcro) will attach it so that it is removeable. Buy online at MSCdirect.com or McMaster.com.

I've mounted power supplies on the inside of the Helm Console. It works well. If you are flush mounting your 2010 you'll have a hole large enough to go through. I just mount using SS screws and self locking nuts.

Sorry for the confusion TG! Kglinz and I have the same boat. Kglinz, my game plan is to mount the 2010 and a Furuno radar in my helm box. Because of the sliding door to the cabin, wanted to keep that area as clean as possible. In my upper box I have a VHF and Radio Shack project box for all of my interface connections. If you remove the fire extenguisher mount on the starboard side, that is the area I want to mount the black box. Think I will probably just glue the plywood down with some 5200. Thanks for everyone's help!
