Default Trolling motor size and features

I just bought a Blue Wave 22 center console with a Yamaha 150. Boat and motor weigh about 2000 lbs.

I will be mostly striper fishing on area lakes (fair amount of trolling at about 1.5-2.5 mph). 50% of the time I will have crew and 50% I will be solo. Sometimes planer boards with live bait (very slow). I will probably fish saltwater 2-3 times a year.

I'm pretty sure I want a Minn Kota trolling motor but I am very confused about size and features.

The autopilot feature looks great, even better with CoPilot. I could put the boat on course and let the autopilot run while setting out 4 planer boards and a couple of flat lines off the back. This would be a big help when solo and would help get things out faster when I have crew.

The problem is that Auto Pilots only go to 65 lbs unless I step-up to the Genesis where I can get 74 lbs. I don't really need the push button deploy and stow feature, but probably could use the 74 lbs thrust upgrade and the universal trolling motor transducer built in. The Genesis price is high, but probably in range. I have some concern about the Genesis models not being saltwater rated, but my saltwater use of 2-3 times a year is modest and I could do very careful rinse and clean-up or just not use it when I go there.

If I cannot get a big enough autopilot model to suit me, then I think I should just go with the RipTide 10. I can set it straight ahead and steer the boat with the main motor until I can get the baits out.

Any thoughts or experiences on these issues?

Thanks for your response.

I have a Motor Guide Tour Edition with 82 lbs thrust that is foot controlled on my 22ft bay with a Honda motor. I fish lake stripers like you have described. I am not familiar with the Minn Kota models but the Motor Guide has a true variable speed adjustment which helps when trolling slowly. It is also a 24v motor and capable of pulling my boat all day without draining the batteries regardlees of how fast or slow I troll. It is difficult however work off the back of the boat and use the trolling motor. Hope this helps.
