Default ADVICE PLEASE: Mounting antennas and radar this weekend

ADVICE PLEASE:

I have to mount on top of my pilot house a 4kw radar, two VHF antennas, one whip for my AM/FM radio, one short cellphone antenna, one SSB antenna, and a GPS antenna. Also on the top of my pilot house are the standard rocket launchers (all along the back of the top) plus a white light and an air horn which is not yet mounted.

I have a useable mounting surface (excluding the overhangs) of 5 1/2 feet wide by 8 1/2 feet long. The superstructure is welded aluminum so strength is not an issue.

Are there minumum spacings between the antennas etc. that I must consider when deciding to mount all of this equipment?

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I plan to start installing this equipment this coming weekend. THANKS!

First off I would check the manuals for the electronics to be sure, especially the radar manual as there should be some "suggestions" on distance and such. The only one I remember from when I mounted my radar was that the GPS anntenna should not be in the direct path of the radar beams. I used a 4' extension to get the GPS up higher than the radar unit.

The only thing I would avoid is the GPS antenna in direct line with the radar beam. Some on this board have said that eventually the beam will deegrade the GPS antenna. I have had mine as you see it there for four years without a problem, yet. I have the Raydome mount on a Scan Strut ( www.ScanStrut.com ) that I purchased at www.consumersmarine.com I have had no interference with the radar or the display on the radar with this setup. Hope this gets you started. I added the strut to clear the light, GPS antenna, and the horn. Patience is the name of the game. Good Luck.

You can also get an optional vtail for the scan strut. That mounts underneath the raydome and ontop of the scanstrut. You can mount the gps off of that and mount a light off the gps extension arm. They go for about $125 bucks. Spacesaver!
