Default Scout 185 Electronics

A 185 SF is on order and I am trying to make the choice for a sounder. I am leaning towards the Furuno LS6100 but I am not sure if it will fit. Depth and Width look fine but I'm not sure about height. The Furuno height as advertised is 7.8". If any Scout 185 owner could put a tape to the inside of their elec. box I would really appreicate it. Thanks Brian

If it's any help, I had a Garmin 185 mounted on a RAM braket and it fit well. I could swing the unit out to any convenient angle and then fold it back into the box and lock it up. The RAM mount was sturdy and did a first rate job. I also had my VHF mounted in the box and had more than enough room.

For what it's worth this is where the electronics are on my 1999 185.
Garmin 240 on bow mounted trolling motor
Garmin 2006c with FF option on top left of console
GPS antenna on top right of console
4' VHF antenna on right console grab rail
Icom 502 inside electronis box
Jensen CD inside electronics box
Wire FM antenna inside console
Raytheon ST 5000 auto pilot display to the right of the throttle
Lenco trim control switches to the left of the throttle
Thinking about a 2006 to the right of the 2006c for seperate GPS and FF displays
Email with any questions

Enjoy your boat!

Ken

Thanks for the replys guys.
Ken, how do you like the 240? That machine is option number 2 if the LS6100 won't fit inside of the box. I was leaning towards the LS because of the bigger display, bottom lock, and higher definition (pixel count) but if I can't mount it inside of the box I'll have to do something else. The boat won't be in for a month and I wanted to get a jump on installation by purchasing the unit up front. Where specifically did you mount the xducer and are you happy with the performance? Thanks.

Brian

95% of my fishing is on lake lanier GA. The 240 does fine. I first had it on my console. The transducer is mounted on the recessed part of the transom to the right of the drain plug. It's too close to the center line, per mounting instructions, but seems to be the only place I can put it.

From what I've seen, most freshwater fisherman would go with the Garmin and most saltwater would go with the Furuno. Both have good reputations.

I wish the screen resolution was better on the Furuno. I had the 600L but did not like the screen. I'd get the 582 but still have an issue with the screen. Part could be my eyes and the sun glasses I wear. The resolution on the 2006c is outstanding and very easy to see.

I've only seen the 6100 on line. It seems to be a good unit. Best advice I could give is look at each in person and play with them. Then decide.

Good luck
