Default Back-up Waypoint Chip on a Garmin 2010

I want to back-up the waypoints on my 2010 and purchased a blank chip from Garmin, but I bought my boat used and the seller could not find the Garmin instruction manual so I don't know where to start. Anyone have any experience copying their saved points to a blank chip and can tell me how to do it? Thanks.

you probably have to upgrade to the latest software. see the garmin site. If you don't have a computer connection to your 2010, call garmin...they will loan you the upgrade on a chip.

Once you have upgraded, you'll find the capability to save your waypoints in the menu.

You can get the manual at the Garmin site. tried to paste the URL for the manual itself, but it didn't want to connect, so go to garmin.com and browse away!!

Looking forward to GETTING my 2010C soon!!

Good luck w/ yours!

Thanks everyone. Am currently using software v5.2 which is sufficient and it is such a simple procedure even I could do it.
1. Put blank BlueChip card in slot #1/top slot.
2. Go to User Card on the menu.
3. Push "Save Data" button on the bottom left of screen.
I have about 250 WayPoints and 4 Tracks and it took all of 4 seconds to save everything onto the chip.

do you self a favor and get the bluechart cd and the usb programmer - you then can take that chip and put all your charts on it plus all your wayponts and take it into the house and play with it on your PC. everything I have in terms of waypoints and routes are so much more cleaned up now. After you're done - just reburn it onto the chip and pop the chip out of the programmer and insert it back in the boat. The 16mb chip is more than enuf to hold all your charts and the waypoints with plenty to spare.

I agree completely. You can plan trips and create routes to upload to the Chart Plotter from the comfort of your own home. You can print charts and routes on paper with your printer. Great winter fun also.

Ditto to the above. With a 16MB chip I can load all of the coastal charts for NC plus Fishing Hotspot charts for the local lakes on a single chip - don't have to change anything if I go to the coast or local.

The chip prices have come down in the past two years, though. Get at least a 64MB chip.
