Default Water Temperature gage / Outboard

Okay guys, gals, I have a question I want to put out there for your thoughts.
What if, and this is a big what if, you had a temperature gage that would consistanly monitor the temperature of your outboard, but gives a digital readout. Made the same size and style as your double pole rocker switches.
Here is the deal.
A gage (Switch) that would monitor the temperature of your outboard.
A gage (Switch) that you, the operator, could program to the settings you want.
An alarm that would sound or flash an indicator if temperatures reach to high.

My question to you is, would this be a useful tool on your boat?

Please, all pros and cons will be helpful.

I am a big believer in temp gauges over what I consider useless water pressure gauges. I currently have analog temp gauges. A digital temp gauge would probably be fine but not a whole lot of improvement over the analog. What might be of value however, would be a buzzer that activates at a preset temp. Obviously you would set it at some point lower than the current one which puts the motor(s) in slow down mode. Not sure if I would be will to pay much for it as the system already is in place to protect the motor from actually overheating to the point of damage.

I like the idea of the temp guage with an alarm. Of course the normal running temp would vary with water temp, but an adjustable alarm set to the manufacturers max normal runnign temp would certainly be a great safety feature. maybe something that would flash a number just below the actual alarm so that you can do something about the temp before you actually have the alarm sounding and a problem.

My Mercury Smart Craft has all of that already.
