Default sitex 106 crt & 106 lcd resolution comparison?

Has anyone done a side by side comparison of these two units display quality.I believe the image proccessing is the same for both units. But the lcd vs. crt resolution costs a c-note.Is it worth it,or would the money be better spent on other goodies? Will be purchasing very soon. Thanks

I bought my LCD CVS-106L on e-bay from Boatersworld for $400. The unit was perfect still in the factory packaging. I got the big bronze thru hull ducer and epoxied it inside the hull as a shoot thru.

Screen looks great to me. Its not as sharp as the Garmin 240 that was already on my boat, but running the two at the same time, I see more targets on the Sitex and the color definition is sweet. I looked at both 106crt and 106LCD in the store and they are different... but functionally the same. I think the LCD pixels are so sharply distinct they fool you into thinking the image is not as sharp as the CRT, when the crt pixels are just more fuzzy and that makes the lines on the crt screen look smoother when thet really aren't.

I forgot to say why I bought it. It is easy to view in full daylight where the CRT definitely must be fully shaded to see. I mounted it in my electronics box.

Plenty of room plus a t-top.My elec. box is high and i dont want to have to fish the transducer harness w/plug through the pipe works.Looks like a console mount will be easy install and easier on the neck when using.Does the sunshield work well,or just get in the way?...Thanks for the input!... still pondering Bob C

The narrow answer to your question is that the CRT version has a higher resolution display than the LCD. But given your circumstances of a center console boat and mounting in the console, I thnk you will be much better off with the LCD model. The resolution difference is not that meaningful in the small screen size, but the daylight viewability of the LCD is much, much better. I would also worry about keeping the CRT unit dry if not mounted up top.

Inside your T-Top box right under the top, you would be okay with the CRT if it is recessed a few inches. The detachable shade is more trouble than it's worth usually -- far better to use the electronics box itself as the shade. The other reason to get the LCD unit is that Sitex will not doubt discontinue the CRT model very soon and parts support may get thin in a couple of years.

You might want to look at the Furuno 600L, which some people would argue has better processing software and works better. I am not familiar with it myself, just the bigger Furuno units (which are indeed vastly superior to the CVS-106 I used to have, but also cost much more).

Thank you for contacting Furuno USA, Inc.
The FCV 600L has a resolution of 240H by 320 V as opposed to the 667 with 232H by 240V. So the 600L has a higher resolution. If you were going deeper, say in the area of 800 feet, I would recommend a transducer with a tighter beam angle such as the 520T-HPC/D. This will give you better definition at both shallow and deeper depths. The beam angle is 25 degrees at 50 khz and 5 at 200 as opposed to the less expensive "stock" transducer with has a beam angle of 45 and 12 degrees respectively. The stock transducer thru hull (525ST-MSD) is usually the choice of the customers when in 200 foot area of bottom detection. I don't have any pictures to send you comparing them. The 525T-HPD lists for $400. while the 525ST-MSD list for $225.
Hope this info helps in you making your decision!
regards " Well it certainly did and I ordered the 600L today and will upgrade the ducer later if needed...Thanks for the input Gents and "salts". I'm sure I'll be occupied with the new toy for at least the first half of summer.
