Default Update on garmin 2006 Transducer

Just an update on the shallow water readings for Garmin sonar. I posted some questions about not being able to read less than 4 feet with my garmin 2006. Contacted Airmar and they said that the transducer that was recomened by the oem manufacturer was not able to read less than 4-5 feet. I had Airmar build me a transducer with a LQ of 8. This is what they recomened What a difference. I can now read down to 1.1 feet with no problem. These guys no their business. They were very easy to speak to and wanted to help. This transducer is not a stock item. and yet they built it in 2 weeks for only $85.00. If anyone needs help call Airmar and ask to speak to Lisa at ext.1046
Thanks to all.

Was just going to order the gsd 20 and transom mount transducer. Is the ducer you speak of transom mount and direct from Airmar? Does it have the plug for the gsd 20 or do you modify?

Did they modify your original transducer, or is this a completely new one? Reason I ask is I have a Garmin 240 blue with an Airmar dual freq transducer and it won't read below 4-5 feet either.

Sorry for not giving all the details. Airmar put the correct plug on at their plant. I had a 50/200 transducer model p66 transome mount. I believe they make this set up in many styles.

I spoke directly to Mr. Bob Jeffers one of the founders of Airmar. Really knows his business. He is the one that said unless you want to read more that 800 feet there is know need for a split frequency. By going to a straight 200 they can make it read in skinny water.
My transducer is transome mounted and tracks the bottom at all speeds and on turns.I have not had the opportunity to try it in any really deep water yet. However Iam sure it will work.
It is really interesting what you can learn if you get to the correct person.
My selling dealer had no clue what to offer in order to solve this.
My first question to Garmin and my selling dealer was what the hell good is a transducer when you need it most. SHALLOW WATER Not even Garmin offered any help.
Good luck

Interesting Wanderer - I was just rigging a 188c Garmin unit to run in my flats boat and it would have been quite lousy if it didn't read below 4 feet. Going to call them and get one for me also. I guess the unit adjusts to the single frequency limit on the page options, i.e., if you hit dual freq it will only show the 200...

My garmin 168i came with an airmar trans. and I mounted it to shoot thru the hull. It reads up to 1 ft. with no problems.
