Default Installing Blue chart data card.

I have a Garmin GPSmap 162.
I just recieved my MUS007R data card. Where do you put it? I had never taken the head off of the unit until now. There are no instructions with the card. Do you have to take the back cover off of the unit?

I e-mailed Garmin, they will reply within 5 to 7 business days.

Are you sure you have the 162? I have that model and it does not take a card. You should have a cable that you can hook up to your PC and donload it from there, with the Blue Water software.

Yes I have the 162.

I'll have to send the card back and get the CD software. Card said compatible with all Garmin chartplotters. I guess they meant all but mine.

If you do have the 162, then you bought something you cannot use. The 162 is not compatible with the data cards. You must have the Bluechart CD and the info is downloaded via the cable into the units imternal memory.

As far as being compatible, they are compatible with all Chartplotters that will tak a data card. Yours is not the only one that will not take a card.

When you get the CD and start using the 162, you will love it. It is a great unit!

Just so you know, the same charts are on both the data card and the CD that is to be used with your machine. Its all the same data, just in two different formats. Some Garmin machines use one, some use the other, but I don't think there are any models that can use both, or is that either?

I'd immagine that whoever sold it to you will do an exchange, no problem. The CD might actually be a bit cheaper too.

Make sure you get the necessary cabel to hook your 162 up to your PC so you can download the charts. I had the same unit on my last boat (3 years ago). Back then not all of the charts for my area would fit the unit but I never had a problem.

Actually Thom, any unit that will use the Chip can use the CD. All you do is buy a blank memory chip and download to the info from the CD to the blank chip. What is nice about buying a blank chip is the ability to have multiple data sources. My 64 meg chip has info from Metroguide for the majority of Georgia and Florida, Bluecharts for Florida Panhandle and Florida East coast and Georgia coast, plus Lake data for several Georgia lakes and the St. Johns River. All on the same chip. Tha advantage of the CD is the ability to pick and choose the charts you want.
