My GPSmap 396, (aviation) displays and updates TFR' (Temporary flight Restrictions) and MOA's (Military Operations) through XM. It is a great tool while in the air, I guess it could easily be modified to work on the water.

My GPS 496 does the same thing, but that doesn't help me as xm is not downloading it... i need to do it manually.

Yeah, that's the only way with garmin. Unfortuantely it burns one of your 20 route slots.

i'm saved as a "track". does that use track memory or route memory? (20 is more than enough for me anyway).

Hmm, nope, tracks are saved in a different part of mem than routes, but that storage is finite as well.

If it works for you, that's whats important.

I set them up as tracks, but was quiet aggravated that you can't manually input the exact coordinates of the ends of the tracks like you can waypoints. You have to move your mouse around to get them close. Ugh...

The saved tracks do not use up the routes memory. AND, Saved tracks also do NOT affect the Active Track point limitation of 10,000 points. So if you have a Saved track with 1000 points in it, you still have 10,000 Active track points available. Saved tracks points do not detract from the Active track memory.
