Pro: Smaller and lighter (maybe you'll wear it when fishing solo)

Con: Battery life. If fast rescue is not possible your battery may die before they get to you.

Both an EPIRB and PLB put out the same signal and strength. Most have built in GPS which relays your coordinates. EPIRB just has a bigger battery and is bigger.

Also , even if the PLB floats you still have to deploy the antenna activate the ON buttons and hold it up out of the water. IMO , a GPIRB is better on your own boat and a PLB w/ GPS is good for solo running &/or on others' boats as long as you have it on you in case you fall overboard. Thus , smaller is better for PLB's.

I don't believe the McMurdo Fast Find floats so if you drop it when needed you could be dead. For a PLB, I'd think the compact, floating ACR AquaLink would be a much better choice.
