Default Navnet 3D Furuno C-Map info, questions

In talking with a Furuno tech today I learned that C-Maps when released will be available for download from the Furuno site just like their other NN3D charts are today. We will be just buying the "unlock codes" from Furuno.

PROBLEM is that most people to not have a fast enough internet connection to do this. I just had a friends computer company do it on a really fast T-1 line and downloading Satellite photo files took an average of 20 minutes each file. These files are huge, over 1.5GB. When I tried it on my DSL line, the computer estimated 5 and 1/2 hours for the download.

Furuno dealers apparently can get a hard drive with all these files on it and then can sell their customers SD cards with one set of charts on each on the SD cards. These can be read by the Navnet MFDs. Furuno expects most end users to obtain their charts this way.

QUESTION: Does anyone know of a reputable competent Furuno dealer who will sell us the chart sets on SD cards at a reasonable cost per SD card?

FOOTNOTE: this is a big pain compared to being able to buy SD cards with charts directly from C-Map, Navionics, etc. I hope Furuno will realize that time and hassle are a part of the cost of items and distribute at least the C-maps through retail channels like other brands do.

I have done quite a bit of dowloading at home with not much issue. What I try to do is start the download and then go do something else for a half hour or so. Come back and unzip then copy to 2GB SC Card. So far so good. I was hot and heavy doing dowloads early on and have not done anything in last 3-4 months. Probably will update all my files before Memorial and cross reference site to make sure I am up to date. If you have 56k then yes you are toast but if you have a Cable or DSL you would be best served to familiarize yourself since you will need to do them from time to time to stay current.

Ditto, I download their files all the time with no problem. Even the satellite files download for me in less than 30 minutes. This is on a cable connection.

Casey they have NN3D v 2.0.5 out and it's much better with charts.

Interesting. I have a DSL line in Florida. I wonder if your fast download speeds have to do with your being in Washington near the Furuno server. I could live with a half hour download.

I have a T1 line at my business and it sucks compared to cable. I would say my cable is 2.5 to 3 times as fast.

In Furuno's press release, they state that you can purchase the chart unlock codes from "Jeppesen or Furuno USA dealer." I wonder if you can just purchase the a card directly from a Jeppesen dealer?

SInce there are many superior plotters out there (mine is Nobletec on a laptop backed up by an older Ray radar/plotter) to a NN3, is it possible to buy the NN3 digital radar and screen with no other Furuno stuff "attached?"

no problems with download......if u dont have multiple SD cards this is the best way to do it. Furuno even has a training video on their website on how to do it.

The Jeppesen MM3D charts on SD cards are scheduled to start shipping the week of May 24, 2010. They will be available from authorized Jeppesen dealers, as well as the Mashpee office.

I have been very pleased with the east coast cmap charts running in NN3D and v2.05.

I will post a picture of Sirius wx when next on the boat. Note that it takes a few minutes to load files after wx receiver is powered up.
Will then routinely show wind speed and direction icons and buoy icons with data ( ans severe wx when appropriate)

Is this worth $300? Does it also have an updated version of the fishing charts? I cannot find and demos, screen shots or info as to why this is better than the free furuno charts. I'm sure it is but how do they expect you to buy it without showing you what it is?
