Default Need to mark a line on hull (under water)

I am mounting my transom transducer on a board to clamp on my transom so I can see where the best location will be when running, before I mount it permanently.
Do you think a regular magic marker would allow me to mark the hull when I find the perfect spot?
I don't really want to wait until I get the boat on the trailer then mark it.
I am thinking I will mark one spot, then move it a little to get it perfect.
Has anyone else used this method to locate a transom mount transducer and could offer any tips?
Thanks Bob

i would think a crayon or china marker would write better underwater.

you might want to mount a piece of starboard to your transom permanently. that way you can mount your transducer many times to the starboard without putting more holes in your boat. it also lets you get a new unit in a few years and once again you wont have to put more holes in your boat.

good luck

Buy a China Marker (grease pen) and the best electronic equipment on the market. Buy equipment you intend on using and "trusting" for the next 3-4 years.

PS 3-4yrs is a long time for marine electronics.

I'm just guessing here but I suspect that if you use a common magic marker you will NEVER get the marks off the hull no matter what sort of solvent you might find yourself trying to use. Personally I'd just use a pencil for this temporary mark.
