Default Transducer opinions needed

I'm getting together my wish list of electronics for my new boat (Silverton 34c) which is comming in at the end of Aug and I've pretty much got everything picked except the transducer. I definitly am going with a thru hull but that's about as far as I've gotten. I'm going with the C-series from Raymarine but I'm somewhat overwhelmed as to what kind of transducer to get. I've seen all kinds from nylon to bronze where some require fairing blocks, that are sometimes included, and some don't. I've seen fairing blocks as expensive as the transducer. There are self leveling ones etc etc. I expect to pay around $300 $400 unless convinced otherwise. What do you people recommend? Thanx.

Get a low-profile thru hull. Not sure what the model #'s are for them on the C series, call raymarine tech support and tell them you want the C-Series equivelent to the model #78922 (which was for L470, 365 and 750 sounders). It comes in Nylon ($), brass($$) or stainless($$$) all made by Airmar.

These are great units, simply drill a 2" round hole, drop it in with some 4200 calking and tighten the nut. Now you have a thru hull ducer that sticks out the bottom of your hull about 1/8" (virtually flush).
