Has anyone used this machine and is worth buying. Already have a machine but could use a backup and 2010c is already in use on the boat.

What sounder do you already have?

Have had one operating with a 2010C since the middle of last summer. It's a good sounder package with the 2010,does all you can ask for. It's a good unit, there were some shut down problems-but the latest software updates are a solution Garmin has to the problem. Here in the NE it will be a while before we get in the water to try out the fix ,prehaps some southern owners will report in on the software upgrades.

I agree with Tuna1, I also have the 2010 with the sounder, not a bad unit at all. Did have the shutdown problem last summer also, have not got the new software as of yet, but will before season begins. I hope that takes care of the problem.

Please keep us posted. I just purchased the 2006 and will have to decide soon on which fish finder to get. Stand alone or the black box, thanks.

I read someplace on here that the shutdown problem was caused by rapidly changing depth while using the fish symbols.

I have a GSD 20 for sale. Switching to a F582L can't run both. $100.

tex, might be interested in that. Do you know if the same unit works for the 182c or if they are different?

I think I was one of the originators of this problem. I had sent the 2006C back to Garmin in Oct and they diagnosed the problem as corrupt software and installed version 4.04. Problem happened again in early January and this time I sent back both the 2006C and GSD20. They acknowledged they still had the problem of deep water shutdown and isolated the problem to the Fish Icons being ON under deep water conditions. They suggested that the Icons be turned off in deep water and they also promised a software update in the near future. The update is now on Garmin's site as version 5.0 and this fix is one of the line-item corrections. I was quite surprised at all of the other enhancements.

As far as I am concerned, I would not let this shutdown affect a positive decision to install the GSD20 with the 2006/2010. I am sure they got it right this time.
