Default Humminbird Matrix 55

I have been having a lot of issues with my Humminbird Matrix 55 fishfinder function. I bought it last fall and installed it this spring. It lost it's display after only 2 weeks and had to be returned to Humminbird under warranty. The transducer continually loses bottom in turbulent water such as the mouth to Boston Harbor, many channels with turbulence and a number of rips where it will suddenly start reading 2-3' inareas that are much deeper. In addition, the transducer continually kicks up and I have to shut down and manually click it back in place. The transducer location is virtually identical to a friends boat. His hasn't kicked up once in 3 years. Mine kicks up 10+ times each trip. On rough trips it shuts down and has to be restarted, sometimes it restarts itself. I have owned a couple of bottom line Humminbird depthfinders in the past and they were very reliable which is why I bought this one. Are Humminbirds as good as other GPS/Fishfinders, or did I make a bad purchase? Anyone else having similar problems? For what it's worth the GPS works fine.
