Thinking of putting a 1731 on my boat and was wondering if anyone out there has this unit and if you are satisfied with the performance. I want a 4KW antenna and furuno does not make anything else in a 4KW that does not have the chart plotting capabilities with it. I had the 1712 on three other boats but would like a little more power. I would like to stay with Furuno, I have had very good luck with there products.

I had the 1751 on my previous boat. This is essentially the same model with a different antenna. It was an excellent unit which performed very well for the size and price. I now have the 10.4" Navnet with a 3.5' array. Of course it is even nicer but also costs more. The 1731 has a great reputation and is a
great choice in the 2-3K price range.

troll, thanks for the reply. I am limited for space. I want to put this unit in the electronics box overhead on a Grady 273 Chase which I think should fit. I just want a little better target detection from my 1712.

Sure thing. You might also consider the 7" Navnet if you want FF and GPS integrated as well. The color is also nice.
Is it hard going down to a smaller boat? I recall you just sold the 33. They are beautiful. My 2004 300 is similar since the redesign. The 2005 Sailfish also now has the same design with transom box, folddown seat, and upgrade cabin.

troll, I hated to sell the 33 but I wanted more mobility to fish Virginia in Oct through Dec. and 175 miles is too far to run back and forth and my wife and I were just not doing enough overnighting to keep that much boat. I will also be able to bring the boat home to my shop in the spring and fall to clean and wax before winter put away and pre spring fishing.
